Bell tower of the Philadelphia Court House, better known as Independence Hall. The Liberty Bell hung on this tower until 1852 (briefly taken down in 1777). The tower currently hold a Centennial Bell that was created for the U.S. Centennial Exposition in 1876. Philadelphia, PA

  • In this room the delegates of the Continental Congress nominated George Washington as commander-in-chief of the Continental Army (June 14, 1775). A year later, the Declaration of Independence was approved in this same room (July 4, 1776). The Continental Congress continued meeting in this room until December 12, 1776.
