Waugoshance Shoal Light was constructed in 1851 to mark the shoals extending from Waugoshance Point. It was built of brick and in 1883, sheathed with 3/8-inch thick steel. The light was decommisioned in 1912 and in the early 1940s became a target for practice bombing. Today it stands without some of the metal casing deteriorating and serving as a bird colony. There are efforts underway to stabilize and possibly restore the light. Straits of Mackinac, MI
